    Exposed

A small herd of Caribou on MacKay Lake with no place to hide.

  • A first

    A first

My first sighting of a wolf in the north. He crossed the highway in front of me and became bogged down in the wet snow. We stared at each other for a few minutes.

  • Wandering

    Wandering

I came across this small herd of Caribou on MacKay Lake in late March 2020. There was quite the harvesting going on and I am sure they were trying to get away from it as best as possible.

  • Harvest

    Harvest

Caribou carcasses, or, "gut piles" lined the northern part of MacKay lake during the first week the Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road was open to commercial traffic. The annual harvest, also known as the "slaughter" commenced and anything was game, no matter if it was within the no hunting zone or not. And there was a lot of waste too as I managed to pick up a few nice Caribou hides.

A bull poking around in the fall brush. And he was a big dude.

    The Sign Says it All

A "gut" pile found at the north-end of MacKay Lake during the first week of the ice road season.

  • Do I cross the road?

    Do I cross the road?

I had the pleasure to photograph a family of red foxes one summer near the Prelude Park campground.

  • Wood Bison

    Wood Bison

I caught these two one late night and decided to play with some very slow shutter speeds.

  • Looking for food

A Great Grey owl searching for food during a snow shower.

  • On the run

    On the run

I managed to photograph this herd of Caribou in the failing light at the north-end of MaKay Lake, NT towards the end of March. Something had spooked them as they were part of a larger "gathering" and broke off and headed north-east.

  • The pounce

    The pounce

I caught this Great Grey searching for mice along the tree line last spring.

  • Hungry

    Hungry

I came across this gorgeous wolf who was feasting on a caribou gut pile. And he could have cared less if I was there or not.

  • Checking things out

    Checking things out

Two ENR employees came over to see if I was hunting Caribou or not.
